The Facebook explosion…
(430 views)I have to admit, I’m a Facebook user and yes I love it. I first heard of it when I was a sophomore in college and thought, what the hey, I’ll give it a shot. At this time, only college students were allowed (you had to have a college email address to be able to join). I kind of liked that… not that I care whether or not people go to college, but it gave it almost an exclusive vibe. When I first signed up, I was pretty stoked… you could search for people through your college or old high school and “reconnect”. There are definitely people from high school that I am Facebook friends with that I don’t necessarily care about, but with how easy Facebook makes it, it’s fun to just get a glimpse of what they’re up to.
And then it all changed…
Out with the old Facebook, in with the new. I understand that to keep a business successful, it must be ever-evolving to keep up with the times and to retain interest from their clientele. That said, Facebook has gotten absurd. High school kids are now able to join as well as ANYONE with a valid email address. It has turned into more of a MySpace in which random people that come across your profile picture and are interested will send you messages, add you as a friend, etc. My goal in Facebook is not to connect with arbitrary people that I don’t know and have some sort of Internet relationship. Sorry, just not my cup of tea. There are also so many “applications” that it becomes confusing to even navigate the site. And my least favorite thing of all… hackers that post things to your profile “wall” about advertisements or with sketchy links that are nothing but invasive viruses.
So why don’t you cancel your account, you might ask. Well, pure and simple, I like the simplicity of keeping in touch with people. I don’t have the time nor desire to call every single person I would like to keep in touch with and so Facebook allows a simple way of doing so.
That’s my 2 cents… anyone else agree??

The fb interface is really confusing and hard to use until you get used to it (I still get confused from time to time). But overall I like it a lot and use it all the time. Way better than myspace or any of the others.

Facebook like anything else is what you make it. I never realised I could find so many people I know or have met on it. Great!

just when I was starting to be able to find my way around in facebook, they changed the layout again!! now i’m completely lost. why can’t they just make the interface user friendly and keep it the same for a while?
