As a displaced New Yorker, I fail to understand the debate on the possible appointment of Caroline Kennedy for senator of NY. I caught Chris Matthews last night and the only argument I heard from those who oppose was that “Caroline Kennedy lacks the experience.” I beg to differ, I would argue that she has a lifetime of experience. Caroline Kennedy has an inextricable link to public service from birth. She’s an attorney, constitutional scholar, respected author, who has actually labored to implement changes and improve the quality of life in New York State. Many would probably say that she would come to the senate chair with much more tangible experience than her predecessor, Senator Clinton. This is a country that has put the Terminator, wrestler, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Purdue of Georgia, a former veterinarian as Governors and less us forget about beloved Bedtime for Bonzo star, Ronald Regan as Governor then President.
Is Caroline Kennedy qualified? to quote the fair Governor of Alaska, “you betcha.” Are there other qualified candidates? Yes, I’m sure. But as a true New Yorker by birth, I think she deserves serious consideration and I for one hope she gets the job incase I ever move back She is a New Yorker of long standing.
