Saturday Morning Randomness : )
Thoughts on Proposition 8
Please, people this debate on Prop. 8 is so disappointing. I really just do not get it. Why are people so concerned about who folks decide to love and share their lives with. I’ve bumped heads with my Baptist minister and some other friends on this issue.
The entire idea to BAN gay-marriage seems sacrilegious to me. Marriage is a sacrament. GOD is love. And to quote Gandhi, “Where love is, there GOD is also.” Therefore if someone finds love in someone of the same-sex, should we not simply cheer for their happiness.
And for those who believe that gay-marriage is a sin, if your argument has any validity, and it is indeed a sin. What the heck does someone else’s sin have to do with you?
Obama’ s Administration
Ok, on November 5th my inbox was full of beautiful stories and thoughts about our President elect, but as the days passed on, the emails started to look differently. I noticed on my facebook notifications, posts about being disappointed in the selection of Rahm Emanuel and then my dear friend sent me an email that read :
” I am already VERY disappointed about his selection for Chief of Staff (Rahm) and rumors of Larry (women can’t do math or understand science) Summers being our next Sec of the Treasury?!!. Summers is the one who worked with Newt Gingrich and Phil Gramm to kill the Glass Segal Act which got us into this financial crisis in the first place, and they’re thinking about bringing him back to Treas.”
So of course, I started reading so I could defend President -Elect Obama’s choice and considerations intelligently. As I’m sure you’ve read or heard, it is currently being reported that he may be talking with Senator Clinton for the office, Secretary of State. I personally was encouraged by the rumors of John Kerry in that job. However, I realize Obama prides himself on being a good listener and relying on the advice of those who have walked the roads while having an eagerness and a desire to embrace the new. He has to include those with past expertise, that are Washington insiders who know how to make things happen. His campaign ran on the idea of UNITY, and that’s embracing the old and bridging the divide.
I am confident that his administration will represent a balance that is needed.
Big Plans this weekend
On my list of 100 things to do this weekend, I will be taking my daughter to an early release party for Twilight, the movie based on the Stephanie Meyer book series. And I thought my waiting in line, and midnight release parties were over with the end of Harry Potter, but no-dice. Now, it’s teen vampires in love. As long as she’s reading….
Last week we went to a basket-making class and both did pretty well. I love our baskets, she was resistant initially, but loved it, and now has her heart shaped basket that she hand-crafted on display in her room, so yay! Mom got something right.
BTW- My daughter and I recently discovered the coolest site, I listed it under Educational Resources, but it allows students to create videos of their experiences/field trips and share on line with other students. I think it’s great! Students really learn from each other. This site allows them to reinforce their knowledge base by sharing what they’ve learned.
