I appreciate the honesty of everyone’s posts. Egomezgarcia-just like doerflinger says, don’t get discouraged.  We’ve been there.  Honestly-still can’t hack that DVD and I’ve been doing TA since they came out, Sept!  It took me a long time to get the combos down…honestly.  Like a month or 2.  At my best, I can only handle her dancing 3x a week.  I’m not there right now b/c of my shin splint.  Also, some of TA’s moves I cannot do (like when she goes to the side with her feet infront then back then front etc.”  I modify and do what I can do.  It’ll get easier in that you’ll get stronger and you’ll get use to the fast pace of it.  I remember a lot of days being very defeated but I kept to it and got through it.  I just wish my old shins would keep up with me.  :)  Hang in there…you can so do it!!!!

Wish me luck.

hi everyone!

thanks for the warm welcome… its really appreciated~!
re: egomezgarcia question about my size before and after - i dont have a scale and never weigh myself but i am probably in the range of 130 -135 wanting to get down to 125 ideally. it probably wont happen but the thing that is happening is the tone of all my jiggly bits has changed so dramatically, and i am a girl who loves to excercise. i go to the gym, do yoga, pilates and lots of different dvds at home (denise austin used to be my fav) but since meeting tracys workout i am totally and completely converted.

for one thing i will never do another squat again as long as i live - reason enough to celebrate!  i have changed my body in 6 weeks like i never would have thought possible. my pants dont fit anymore, in a good way but i really dont think ive lost any weight, maybe a pound or 3, its the way i look that is amazing. even my face looks slimmer and im not exactly doing any facework lol!

i could maybe find a pic of last summer when my daughter was about 20 months old, i looked OK - but now it is such a huge difference.

the other really cool thing that i would love to share with you guys is that my husband does the dvds with me!  hes only done the cardio a few times, he doesnt like it a lot, but he loves the mat work - and ticks me off how good he looks after only doing it about one third of the time that i do it but i guess thats a mans metabolism for us.  he has a bad back and it seems to be soo much better these days after the workouts and he really looks good!  he too carries around an extra 10 or 15 pounds but has transformed his bulky masculine look into a slimmer sort of taller leaner look… its really neat to see!

thanks for all the encouraging words from everyone about sticking with the cardio - im into it now about 4 songs and doing pretty good - missing a lot of turns and i still need to take a lot of breaks because she kills me but i feel so good and sweaty when im done - i know thats the point.

good luck to all of you with the progress - this routine is truly magic and if we do the work we can change our bodies - its working!

egomezgarcia: Hang in there! The cardio is super tough for me too, so don’t feel alone. I’m doing them slowly, learning them one at a time. Use positive self talk to get through these first rough two weeks of the TA routine.

belladiamondz: You’re totally heading in the right direction. My lower ab section was (still is!) one of my problem areas, but after 2.5 weeks, that area was substantially flatter; by the 4th week (this week) I have lines on the upper side of my stomach and am forming fit lines along the sides. Make sure you really focus on her ab section in the mat dvd. They’re kind of weird to do, but if you do them with force and use those muscles, I promise you’ll see results STAT. My mom hates them and doesn’t do them right, so make sure you’re doing them right.

Me, I have been doing 6 days a week, trying for 7, but one or two days I totally crashed and I don’t know if my body couldn’t take it anymore or what, but after one harsh workout session I fell asleep…for 4 hours in the middle of the day, which I never do. I have to make sure to leave one day a week for rest, maybe need to drink more water, I’m not sure. Anybody else experience this weird crazy fatigue too?

One setback: At a bbq last night, I had too many glasses of wine (I’m trying to stick to one per week but i caved) and I woke up totally bloated today! Bleh, it feels gross. I’m taking today as my break day, but will be right back on the TA marathon starting tomorrow. Can’t wait! Is that weird that I’m looking forward to a workout that will happen tomorrow? ha.

Btw, my boyfriend just came back from overseas and when he saw me in my workout clothes, he totally noticed the difference! He said he thought this new TA workout must be fantastic. I may have him joining me in the TA workout, just like torontomom.

Keep up the good work everyone! What we have here is a great community of sexy ladies cheering each other on. =)

Hi Everyone! Okay I just completed my first mat workout - HOLY SMOKES was it challenging.  But it was a burn like no other.  First off, it did take a little adjusting to very little cueing - but I am certain I will appreciate that later…at first I would look up and realize she was on to another move.
Next - the standing leg workout - boy, does your standing leg burn while you are working your other leg?  Mine surely did.  Also, are you supposed to keep your hips facing forward or turn them outwards towards your working leg?
Next - standing ab workout - a bit difficult to get the hang of - but I can imagine it will help - trying to visualize the table!
The arms - wow - BURNED.  I could not believe it.  I was able to complete the weighted section but with one pound weights to begin with.  I am wondering how you are all doing this everyday?  Does it burn from soreness every time - or just the first few times?  I can feel the tightness already in my arms.  Amazing.  Something I have always desired…thinly defined arms.  :)
Are you all doing your cardio before or after the mat workout?  in which order and for those of you using PP and mat - do you alternate every other day?  I appreciate the help - and am looking forward to doing this again tomorrow!  I am going to get my sister hooked on this too - she was trying P90x but I think she will like this better!
Have a great night!  i am going to sleep hard I think!

Thank you everyone for your hospitality! I’m excited to have found a group that loves Tracy as much as I do. She makes working out so much fun.

Do her dance DVDs include the unweighted arm sections much like her “Bootcamp” clips on You Tube? Love that section in Mat!

ds77-I do it everyday and its a struggle for me because my arms constantly stay sore in the same area (upper outer arms). Hopefully it was make a difference all over my arms because they need alot of work, not just in the upper outer area. And I too can feel the tightness only in that area. I am hoping to see if this works for my body. I have fat arms and legs and so I am desperate to find change in my body soon.

Hello Topanga…thanks for your suggestions about the ab section…but what exactly do you mean when you say …”weird”…and to make sure I am doing them right?

oh and to answer your question about the problem area you mentioned I would say try her leg/butt workout that is on goop.  It is definetly gets those hard to reach areas I feel and works them to the bone!
Good Luck =)

Okay so I woke up today feeling the soreness - def sore, but not as bad as I had anticipated.  I can still pick the girls up.  phew…
I will get my mat workout done during nap time and focus on my treadmill later this evening.  I understand the desire for the next workout - because it really does feel like you are pulling all the bits in when you do this!
Have a great one!

Can anyone who has this DVD give me their honest opinion and maybe give me some insight/tips?

Thanks a bunch =)

I am considering giving it a try…please has anyone here tried it?
thoughts…opinions…are most appreciated.

Hi belladiamondz - I love, love, love the “old” Dance Aerobics DVD.  I found it MUCH easier to learn than the “new” Cardio Dance DVD, and I love the “music-video” look to the production.  In addition to the lengthy, step by step tutorial you can use to learn the different combos, there is a “learning mode” where Tracy and two back up dancers take you through a combo step by step, then up-to-tempo, and then you go straight to the performance of the combo you’ve just learned.  This is great to do when you’re first starting out with the DVD, as it allows you to practice each routine as you learn it.  The DVD also has a brief “standing abs” segment and a brief arm segment.    The DVD is broken down into chapters, so you can skip around with ease, even when going between the tutorials, the learning mode, and the workout itself.  I hope you like the DVD as much as I do!

bella i am not good at dieting but did decide to try her diet plan and FAILED!!!  its about 700 - 1000 calories per day which is fine if you dont have anything to do.  if you have children or a job, forget it in my opinion.. i was grumpy and soo lacking the energy that i needed to get throught the day let alone one of tracys workouts.

having said that if you have great disciplie and dont mind hunger pangs or if you do need to lose a lot of weight then give it a try but really for me i ended up binging at the wrong times cause i was so hungry.

ds77 - i was fast forwarding through the standing abs part of the dvd at first because i really didnt feel like i could get the hang of it - tracy makes it seem so “dancy” and i am sooo  not a dancer.. but lately i have been getting into it and i have to say its working!!  so much so that my tiny and sad post breastfeeding boobs actually look bigger because the beggining of my waist is getting smaller..

okay off to play in the backyard.  btw, i re read reviewers mat workout review - hits home now - standing leg pain - etc. :)
has anyone else tried the arm wraps?

bella-I am not following TA’s diet (there is no way I could stick to such a low calorie diet) but I am watching what I eat.  I’m mostly a vegetarian (I still eat fish once in a while) and try to eat mostly raw foods for breakfast and lunch.  When I get home from work I start cooking dinner and then do the mat workout.  Completing the workout before dinner has significantly helped me eat better in the evenings because post-workout my body wants someting light and healthy.

ds77-i take protein shakes after each TA mat workout.  I’ve been using GNC 100% whey in orange cream.  It’s 120 calories and 20g protein.

Doerflinger2006, thanks for the DVD review! I can not wait to get it in the mail and start dancing it out! It sounds like fun for sure…I will post my feedback once I get it =)
Torontomom…I agree with you and needing energy to make it through her workout’s…how can you survive on 700-1000 calories a day?!?! That’s insane. (but then again maybe that’s how TA stays so teeny tiny!)
I have an incredible amount of willpower when it comes to wanting something…and I “want” to look great in a bikini by April 11th! So I’m going to give this so-called diet a shot…if all else fails at least I can say I tried.

Hi Bella, I really also love the DVD Aerobics.  I get excited when it is time to do it…I love the music and the dancer’s bodies get me motivated and it is just plain fun!

I think Songs 1, 2 5 &7 are the easiest to learn, so maybe start with those.   I could barely do one song when I started (I think in Nov), now I can do the entire thing (except Song 4 which I usually skip.) sometimes Ihave to march for a few seconds to catch my breath…

Song 3 has a weird grapevine and I just sub in the grapevine she opens Song 1 with.    You can follow the lady to TA’s left if you are face to face with her. she is less bouncy.

the thing that is so cool about this disc is you can do 2-3 minutes of each song and it gives you a 20-30 minute warm up before the mat, which is how I love to do it :)

wow, whoever said the mat workout gets harder was so right!!  Loving the goop workout as well. someone posted on video fitness the breakdown of goop if you want to write it and keep the note with you.  I can paste it if anyone wants it.

Hi Ladies! Its been a few days since I last post, I went snowboarding this weekend and hurt my back so I had to postpone starting the mat dvd a day so I could recover…But today is day 3. While I love it and am determined to stick with it, I am in desperate need of some inspiration!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO GET THROUGH THE WHOLE MAT DVD WITH NO BREAKS?

Seriously, I thought I was in “decent” shape til I tried this dvd- OUCH! I cant make it though with out taking mini breaks through the standing legs portion and the arms! I cant imagine a time in the near future where this will change!

#525

says:

everydayballerina-Just stick with it you’ll get there!  I’ve only been doing the workout for a few weeks.  It took be at least a week for me to be able to get through the standing legs with no breaks.  I still have trouble getting through the part where you have to flex and extend your foot (but I just push through).  I also still have to take small (1 rep) breaks during the unweighted arm section and I am not yet able to hold the stationary arm out while doing reps with the other arm during the weighted arm section.  Everyone’s body is different so I’m sure the time it takes to get through the DVD with no breaks will be different for each individual.  Just keep up the great work and you’ll get there!

says:

workinprogress thanks for that indepth review…I’m going to make a note of your comments and keep them handy during my first workout!
As for the diet…I too have a problem with my alcohol. =(
I have switched to red wine during the week…to help take the edge off after a long day at the office…but again that’s what’s hindering my results from really showing thru…You cant get flat abs with drinking alcohol. =( so im going to try and cut it out completely for the 3 weeks of the diet….and maybe just have a drink on the weekend (my vice is patron tequila)

Hey EverydayBallerina…dont worry just stick with it!
When I first started the mat workout I thought I was going to DIE…the first series of leg workouts, I was unable to keep up.  I had to stop the DVD repeatedly.
TA’s method is just that…a method which hits different muscles, I guess that I never worked out before.  But just keep doing it…that is my strongest advice to you.
I have been doing it on avergage 5 days a week…Im on my 5th week and what ive decided to do is pause the dvd for each exercise and up the reps by 10 each week…I am up to 50 reps.
Don’t get discouraged…its going to pay off come SUMMER TIME!

From Lily530 at videofitness boards:
~ stand behind chair, bring knee up to front and swing to back in attitude
~ stand behind chair, straighten leg and pulse up to side on diagonal & then straight behind to ceiling (one move)-keeping leg at hip level the whole time
~ 2nd position plie, then bring legs together & then straight out behind
~ kneel on chair, knees together, working leg turned in & foot out – straighten leg up to ceiling & bring back (opposite hand on floor)
~ kneel on chair, leg straight down to side, toe pointed, knee facing forward & lift up as high as you can to the side
~ chair in front, with leg bent up to hip level and then extend back (keeping at hip level)
~ stand on side of chair with one leg over the chair(foot on chair), knee facing forward, lift to side (kick) & back
~ chair behind you, kneel on mat on floor, use top of chair at start and lift from there up to the ceiling

she has another on there Lychee Martini and on youtube if you search “skinny girl cocktails” she has a appletini, pina coladas and stuff.

I like Designer Whey powder. 100 cals 18g protein.

Last night I tried the breakdown of combo 1. I started feeling off. and got really sick during the Mat DVD.
so today I went back to combo 1 I have all the moves down I just can’t move as fast out of the turn/into the leap/ and that little step move - I tried it along with her for about 15 mins. The carpet doesn’t help any either…thankfully the house we are getting has wood floors. I ended up putting my own music on and did combo 1 for about 20 mins constant. I got it down so far…maybe by the end of the week I can do it with her to her song. Tonight the mat dvd

belladiamondz: The weird part in the abs section is the standing abs part where she moves her ribs up and down/side to side. That one’s easy to do wrong but if you do them correctly you’ll see changes in your abs in two weeks. Maybe less!

I know what everyone means by alcohol. When I drink I am super bloated the day after and my tummy sticks out more. It absolutely gets in the way of results, as someone suggested just now. But I’ve always been so in denial about that. I need to remember the liquor/tummy connection.
I wonder if wine is best, if we are to drink at all? One glass a week tops? Sometimes it’s hard, esp when friends are out, people are in town, business brunches & dinners, etc.

Doer~

Don’t stress about period “indulgences”. :-)  I’m right with you there, I get bloating, cravings, MOOD SWINGS, the whole 9.  And like you said, just taking time out tends to make you feel out of it as well.

To steal a line from someone much wiser than I– Don’t try to catch up (or in this case make up), just start wherever you are right now.  So often we try to be perfectionists and if we can’t do everything just right (the exercise, cardio, diet, etc) we get discouraged, or we start thinking about how long or how much work this will all take—and that little voice starts up and says if we can’t do it all “right” why are we trying….  Don’t Listen!!  Just start back as much as you can when you can.  You haven’t undone anything.. because it’s all a continuing process, yes?  So… don’t beat yourself up over what you’ve done or not done these past few days.  What matters is what you do TODAY.  :)  Always.  Not tomorrow, not yesterday.  Just for today.  You can do anything for just one day, right?
Right.  I knew you could.  :-)

Hope that helps.  Keep your head up, baby.  :-D

Alcohol is definitely a struggle for me as well!  I am almost 30, and my friends and I often go out to bars to unwind on the weekends. Also, my husband and I love to drink wine while we catch up on our recorded shows from the week.  I know this sounds bad, but I absolutely CAN’T cut it out completely right now!  I don’t want to!  But I am also very bloated the day after, AND if I drink too much I don’t eat right and don’t workout the day after because of my hangover!

Tonight I plan on doing PP workout and then maybe 20 mins of dance cardio before dinner.

re the alcohol:  I actually read that if you can stick to one glass of wine per day, it actually has a lot of benefits…so I dunno what to think??  maybe I’ll allow myself the treat a couple times a week if I can keep it to one glass and I’ll add some sparkling water and some berries??

thanks so much Ms Honey for the skinny drink link!  I’ll have to check that out!

Doer- YOU WILL GET BACK ON TRACK! I too, am MISERABLE when I have my period, I feel exhausted and weak, not mention my absolute non stop cravings for salt… so I totally feel you on this, but I can assure you a few days of girl problems is in no way going to prevent you major progress! It is a minor minor setback and perhaps the first day back will be slightly more challenging, I am sure by day two it will be much much better! I say get the rest your body needs and get back to it as soon as you can!!! :-)

Also, on the topic of drinking alcohol, I dont think one glass of wine a night is gonna interfere with progress too much, and for alot of people I think it really helps just to relax and ENJOY LIFE!!! :-) Now of course beer is totally different, and 3 margerita’s a night is probably no good!! haha.  I do also believe, if you are on a major weight loss kick, you should probably cut it for a week or two just to help your body detox and avoid the extrta calories….

Hope everyone enjoys the evening! (with or without a delicious glass of wine!)

Ooh Japanese plum wine!! I could go for a glass of that! Ren what brand do you get? I think with the wine as long as you leave enough calories free then you should have a glass. I looked it up and red wine is about 100 calories for 4 oz. That is not too bad. And calorie is a calorie, right?? As long as you are working out more than you take in it should result in weight loss. Of course don’t drink your calories everyday, then you won’t loose weight and you’ll just be hung over!! Everything in moderation, even wine!

Someone said back a few posts that they agreed this Mat isn’t getting easier yet a bit harder…THANK YOU!  I’m not alone!!  HAHA  I’m able to do it w/o breaks (and for the newbies…I took TONS of breaks during standing legs b/c I would have passed out literally and the arms…TONS OF BREAKS…now I can get through all without a break so your muscles do respond)  Yet it’s still not “easier”  those muscle really do need the daily attention just like brushing our teeth.  I’m also fighting the craving to eat junk right now…but I’m not going to..I’ll watch biggest loser instead and head to bed.

well - I pushed on through the day and did my cardio workout 40 mins of treadmill, skipping for some of it and uphill walking and the mat dvd.  i really thought i wasn’t going to get through it.  BUT I DID!  My muscles are def fatigued but I know it is a good thing.  I too was feeling a bit discouraged, before I found this board I was partnering with a friend to motivate one another, and while she has lost 8 pounds (two bikram classes, plus a personal trainer and very few cals per day) I have lost much less. So while I was happy for her, I was a bit disappointed in myself,  granted she is single, has time on her hands etc…  (and more discipline when it comes to food).  I too cannot exist on 800 cals per day.  But the pep talk that Ren gave - really helped and everyones great and encouraging words AND hearing about results.  I know that this is a long journey and one that will require a lifetime committment AND to not compare and beat up on ourselves.  Sticktoitiveness isn’t that was GP said.  I like it.  This board really does help and I look fwd to reading everyones updates each day.
Question - for those that switch b/w PP and Mat - do you switch every day or try to do more of the mat dvd?

Thanks everyone!  Until tomorrow….

Hi Everyone

I am a newbie and have done the dance and mat dvds on the same day about 5 times over the last 2 weeks.  I have managed to master the steps to the first dance but have trouble keeping up with TA and at 42 years old my joints are suffering.  I will keep it up and hopefully I will eventually be able to get through both dvds every day.  I am really enjoying them and I love reading everyone elses progress daily because it keeps me motivated and I realise that I am not alone.  I have about 4 kgs (about 8 pounds, I think), to lose and so far have lost none!  I am watching what I eat, carbs are definately my enemy and I have cut out the wine for now.  I know that I will probably gain muscle with this much activity so I will start to measure my progress by seeing how my clothes fit.  It is winter here in Dubai now and I definately want to be ready for the summer months with my new toned body.

Thanks for listening……………I feel better already!!!

I honestly think that I am getting better with the Mat, it is getting tolerable to do now after doing it 4 times now. Now the cardio, thats a whole different story. I’m beginning to feel that I am wasting my time with it. I think I might try a different way of getting my cardio done because its not getting acomplished, and I need to loose weight.
And ladies I love wine too. I live in Germany and the wine here is sooo inexpensive. And you can buy wine from all over Europe just down the street for under 15 dollars and some cheaper. I buy Italian sweet wine, red and white for only 12 dollars a bottle. I
will be here till June so if anyone wants me to mail them one let me know…..

I very much enjoy being a part of the discussions here.  I hope everyone has a wonderful workout day!

Ren-I agree that PP is harder.  I love the ab work but the leg work and the piking I forward through.  I wish I could do the Mat and then just the ab from PP on same day but that’s too long of a workout including cardio.
Someone asked-I do PP one day and tag on the Goop Butt exercises onto that (b/c I skip the leg series on there) and the sexy arm exercises b/c the arms on the PP are too short and then the next day I do the mat.  So I get 3 mat/week and 3 PP/week.  I just think it changes the muscles up.
DS77 don’t get discouraged about your friend’s weight loss….we all lose differently.  I have not lost quickly at all on the scale.  I still have 8-10lbs to lose.  I try not to think about it and keep going although it’s driving me nuts.  I’m going to be 38 on March 1 and really wanted to weigh 138 but it’s hard.  The weight comes off super slow for me even though people comment I look skinny.
Anyone watch Biggest Loser?  Jillian Michaels totally discredited the thought of not losing weight to adding muscles…said it was complete BS  I think my jaw dropped at that moment!!!!!!  She said “the scale doesn’t lie”  Felt like she was almost talking to me.  LOL

EverydayBallerina~  I’m no doctor, and I will say that when I read the amazon reviews of Tracy’s DVD there were a couple of people who said they’d tried to “work through the pain” like Tracy said and ended up injuring themselves…. So I guess take this with a grain of salt so to speak…

But when I first started doing that arm segment my shoulders burned so bad, and I was so sore the next day that I really questioned doing it again the next day.. and when I did, I swear I thought my arms were just going to break.. or come out of their socket.. I’m not exaggerating.. but I did push through it, and the next day they weren’t as sore.. and the day after that I’ve had no problems since.  A bit of soreness of course, but I’m much stronger… and leaner lol.  That’s the one place that my measurement has actually gone down lol.  So maybe it’s like TA says, and my muscular structure really was changing..
So…… YMMV.. (your mileage may vary).. but going for it worked for me.

Of course YOU are always the best judge of YOU. :-)

I really don’t know if I agree with Jillian on that…if you are honestly putting in the effort of hard workouts and modify your food then I do believe you are building muscle.  Maybe b/c those contestants still need to lose so much???
I just read another article on a critic to TA’s diet and the no running concept.  I’d be afraid to attempt that diet and KNOW I couldn’t do much else than sit on the couch for the day due to no energy from the lack of food.  I think that was published for those needing a quick weight loss or something.  B/c she aslso stated in Cookie Magazine it’s better for your kids to see you workout than count points.
I did not workout yesterday-I was FATIGUED.  Very lazy and exhausted.  I’m glad I listened to my body and took that day off b/c i’m very energetic today.  Still putting in the 6 days tho.
Good luck everyday-even if you are taking the breaks it’s better to do than not to do.  I’m proof that your arms respond and soon you’ll be able to handle the arm section every day.  I couldn’t at all in the beginning but can now.

Welcome!  You’ve found a great group of ladies, and a great place to share (and vent) your experiences. :)

I can’t speak for the cardio, because I’m not doing her dance DVD, but I know that since I started doing the mat, my joint pain and stiffness has improved 100%.  So, hopefully doing the mat series will help you as well.

I’ve also read that several of the girls here ordered her first dance cardio DVD (you can only get it from her studio on her website) and like that one much more than the one that is more widely available.  They say it is much easier to learn.  Maybe try that out?

well you all have motivated me to order the pp workout dvd - i am hungry for a bit more of something different after 3 moths of tracys 2 dvds so its a great idea.

the bummer is they dont ship to canada so i have to send it to nashville to a girfriends house and she is due to give birth any minute now and i will have to wait for her to ship it to me… oh well i guess better late than never right!

this morning i tried the last 3 songs on the cardio dvd (i have been sticking with the first few for 30 minutes and now i know them well) and i noticed it was really annoying how the camera was doing funny shots and focusing just on her face and then just her feet - then it would go all blurry and it was so hard to get the moves down that are hard enought to begin with - did anyone else have a hard time with that?

there is another great workout dvd out there used by heidi klum - its call exhale sculpt - i highly reccomend it to switch up tracys workouts a bit and “surprise the muscles” (as tracy says) the arm workout is great if you use only 2 lbs and the butt work is similar to tracys but quicker and feels good. its 5 ten minute workouts - arms, butt, thighs, abs and then a full stretch section. pretty good i’d say and a nice break from TA.

Now I have a question…how do you all vary your DVD and workout routines?
Right now I do my cardio in the morning, either 30-40 mins of treadmill or the elliptical.
Then once I get home I pop in the Mat DVD and do that and add on some additional workouts (i.e. Butt Goop workout).
Any ideas on how I should go about incorporating this newest DVD into the mix…?
Oh and I also ordered the 2007 dance aerobics DVD…which should be here any day as well.

Bella~

I’ve just now worked up to being able to do the mat DVD in the early afternoon and the PP at night after my kids go to bed at 8 or so.  I don’t ever do the mat at night because it gives me such an energy boost that I can’t sleep (only made that mistake once lol), but the PP is calmer–slower paced with the classical music and all, though it is just as hard (if not harder) than the mat.  I admit that I mostly work from home currently, so I just have to work around my kids sleep schedules.  So time isn’t too much of a problem.  I’m still trying to work in the GOOP butt exercises, but for that I’d have to wake up in the morning before my toddlers, and they’re tough to beat .. :-P  So, still tweaking the schedule lol.

Ren,  I try to GOOP it 5-6 days a week. I’d say 10 w/o is a noticeable difference in the bootie area.  For me, more lift, more firm.  Now I think I remember that Tracy said in one of her youtube clips that she doesn’t like that muscle development on the side of the hip into the top of the glute (hope I remember this correctly).  Sort of like a big sausage. Does that make sense?  Well on me that sucker popped up right away from the GOOP exercises. It’s from the side karate-like kicks.  I don’t mind so much.  I know that with the glute area being the largest muscle area I need to do these a lot.

Hi Everyone,
Well yesterday i was pretty sore - and skipped the mat - but did my 45 mins of cardio.  Today I will complete the mat during the kids naptime - bc I find at nighttime, it is def harder to motivate myself when I am wiped out.  (Between nighttime potty training and an 8 mos. old that still wakes up for a feeding) the days are long - as many of you I know understand…. :)  a blessing as exhausting as this phase is.
So at any rate, I feel like my arms have tightened up in this short time - and I feel good - today I am going to try the cardio dvd maybe in the garage, move the car into the driveway and do it there.
I should also be getting the PP dvd today - so perhaps I will rotate the mat and pp but keep the arms of the mat everyday.  I always think that women look thin if they have well defined thin arms. :) I’d love to be comfortable in my own skin again and in tank tops this summer!  Yay!
Okay have a good one - and I’ll check back later!

ds77– I know what you mean about women look overall in shape depending on their arms.  I always said I had magic arms.  In my home mirror I used to (before TA) think that they were happening.  Then, I’d see a photo or walk by a different mirror and thought, “Woa! Where’d those man arms come from?”  They were big and wide.

So much happier now.  Yes I still use the Velforms on them and that has helped.  On a similar note, I had dress socks on yesterday and when I got home I bunched them around the ankles for about 4 hours (they were snug).  Anyway, took them off before bed and there was an indent from where they were.  So I think it makes a difference.

Hey, be careful about the cardio on concrete.  I suppose most homes have floors over concrete but I’d use MBT shoes to absorb the shock of the impact or shin splints and joints could pop up.

I bet each class out there is about the same as here, though.

aanyanka-I would definitely stay away from the dance dvd is you hurt your ankle.  Honestly-running is easier.  (for me anyway)  The dance has tons of bouncy movements and you go all over the place.
An elliptical could work b/c of the no impact.  When I do my ellitpcial…I keep chanign the incline so I work the different muscles.  Now that TA has me nervous doing that form of cardio.  :)
OK, for me…Mat is HARDER!  What’s up with that????  Driving me nuts!  I can still get through it but geesh…it’s hard.  I love the PP ab work.  If you can get it…so get it!  I wish I could do the mat dvd and then the pp ab part (25 min long or so) after but then to add cardio…that’s like 3 hours of working out!  Who can do that??  Plus I’d eat way more to handle all that.

I have a question for our resident fitness expert, Ms Reviewer:

What do you think about push-ups?  Would they be Tracy-approved?  Just to change things up a bit I did a different toning workout yesterday afternoon (”Squeeze, by Tracy Effinger), and this workout included a set of classic push-ups, which is an exercise I haven’t done in months, and I am ridiculously sore this morning!  The soreness in my arms and chest got me wondering whether or not a set of push-ups every once and a while would be contradictory to Tracy’s method . . . what do you think?  I’ve always read that the classic push up, if executed with good form, is a wonderful exercise for the entire arm and chest . . .

#599

Reviewer
says:

Hi Doer,  I don’t know if a push-up is TA approved, however I agree that IF it’s done with good form (body straight, abs tucked in, hands just slightly past shoulders, neck inline with back, etc.) it is an overall great exercise.  Now, the legs can be straight (boy style) or knees bent (girl style as a starting pushup form) but all the other listed things must apply.

The negative would be if someone has wrist or shoulder joint difficulties then forget it!  Some people can’t take the weight load in their joints in those places.  They could then do a push-off from a stand against a wall.

I do agree Doer that to introduce occassionally other things like this puts our muscles in shock (and hopefully awe).  You’ll also see an arm toning benefit in addition to the chest, shoulders, back, obliques.

Final anaylsis, if you can handle it, go for it.

#600

Reviewer
says:

Open Question for our TA Board:

Is your belly going in?

I have noticed that despite my efforts my belly isn’t going IN.  Overall I had a loss and the obliques are better, but it should have gone in more by now.  If anything I feel like I have a smoothness but stickingoutness big time.  It’s firmer (compared to the sausage rolls I started with) but I almost look like a little kid.  Blah!  In my 20s I had a natural 6 pack and now I miss that.

I may have to go on one of my searches…renegade Reviewer.

If you can, please post your “belly comments”!
