		<description>Really I think it comes down to being honest with yourself and having the courage to see things as they are, and to be willing to say it the way it is.  I think the defense mechanisms come from our innate desire to survive and to avoid situations that we perceive as threatening our own survival -- whether it be punishment, loss of esteem, etc.  So the stronger and more confident you are as a person, the less you need your defense mechanisms.</description>
