Tracy Anderson Dance Cardio
Workout DVD Review

NEXT DAY…

I’ve got shooting pains up from my heels (which are sore from the Mat Workout’s lying down abs routine where I dig them down too hard). No Dance Cardio for me today.

ONE WEEK LATER…

I’ve iced my heels and ankles and gotten somewhat better. I ordered new shoes and that helped. Tomorrow I’ll try the Dance Cardio again.

NEXT DAY…

I do the warm-up. First dance combo and… there goes the ankle/heel pain.

Ugh.

That’s it for me. Tracy’s Dance Cardio is cute and bubbly and hi-cardio and dancey and … not for me. Did I mention it is fast? As in EXTREME HARD CORE FAST. It’s got too many quick lateral moves, sudden shifts of weight from a land on one foot, a spin in the air and land on one foot, etc. that will wreak havoc on my ankle tendons. If someone has bad or temperamental knees, ankles, feet (balls, sides, heels) this DVD is definitely not for you.

This Dance Cardio DVD is best and doable for the extremely fit and adventurous who never had a lot of serious dance training (or just have a better brain than mine) but who can walk into an aerobic class and pick up choreography. Or do a 80’s club dance routine for 40ish minutes. You also must have at least a 10’ x 10’ room. You must have no temperamental leg or foot joints, tendons, or ligaments or even a history of such problems. In fact, like the old Buns of Steel, you need Tendons of Steel. The speed at which the moves are performed is fast, but that’s good if you are fit, because you are almost forced into the next movement. The music is perfect for the routines as there are climatic builds for bigger movements to keep your groove up.

Ahh, to be 20 again. The funny thing is that few 20 year olds are into hard-core fitness like this (except for L.A.). Those 20sters may still be ridin’ off the free-pass high metabolism and eat whatever you want years. Not everyone, but many. Just think if we could go back and workout often in our 20s and keep going…what would the middle or older years be like? Second habit to exercise daily? Crave it? Fantastic bodies? Better health? Summers in bikinis?

So this DVD is great for some and sucks for the rest of us (especially ballet/jazz dancers). Should Tracy have made this Dance Cardio DVD? Absolutely. She’s into it and good at it and it will attract those that can keep up with it. For the rest of us, we’ll keep looking.

Found your review.  :)   GREAT review!! You’ve made me feel so much better.  I am not a dancer, I’m a dancer wannabe.  I watch Dancing with the stars and I think I could do that.  So I try Tracy’s and my feet/legs/brain/arms just don’t go this fast!  They really don’t.  I did hurt my knee one day and had to take a break.  But now I’m so frustrated that I have to get it.    I’m also relieved you mentioned how her break-down and actual workout are not always the same.  The moves she taught in the break-down which I painstakinly learned over and over do not match the high tempo workout.  I’m just flying around trying to keep up.  The spins make me a bit nervous b/c then she leaps into jumping jacks etc.  Are you only going to do her Mat?  When I first watched this (2 months ago) I was completely overwhelmed and thought I’d never be able to do it.  I’m happy to say after 2 months (and not consistent trying) I’m still  not too hopeful.  The only thing that has me trying so hard this week is when she said “If you want a dancers body-you dance”  “If you want a runners body, you run”  Well…maybe eventually I can get this workout down if I keep trying.  But THANK YOU for saying it’s REALLY FAST AND HARD and you have a dancing background.
